Effective on Thursday, the Speed Safety Program in Memphis is fully operational and issuing $50 fines to drivers exceeding the posted speed limit. Motorists were previously given a 30-day warning period to adjust their speed, according to the City of Memphis.
The program features 30 cameras installed across 15 locations, including high-risk intersections, S-curves, and school zones. These cameras capture images of vehicle license plates and transmit them through secure video for review, as reported by the City of Memphis.
The City of Memphis partnered with Verra Mobility to administer the program and ensure accurate enforcement. Law enforcement will verify each infraction before a fine is issued to the registered vehicle owner.
