The community of Raleigh-Egypt High School in Memphis finds itself grappling with a startling revelation as its head football coach, Trevin K. Wallace, 32, has been arrested on drug charges. According to Action News 5, Wallace faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia following an operation by narcotics detectives.
Surveillance conducted by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office on Boyd Avenue captured Wallace accepting a package containing marijuana from another individual, identified as Calvin Gathings. Detectives later found the same package in Wallace's residence, equipped with a digital scale. "What role model are you trying to be to the kids? You are giving them the wrong look," a parent of a student expressed in an interview obtained by Action News 5, echoing the sentiment of disappointment and betrayal felt by the school community.
In a statement made to authorities, Wallace admitted to his role as the head coach at Raleigh-Egypt High School and acknowledged that he knew of the package's contents. WREG reported that the package in question contained 505 grams of marijuana. The man who delivered the package to Wallace suggested that the coach contacted him to retrieve a package previously delivered to an alternate address and that the pair occasionally smoked together.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools have confirmed awareness of the arrest of their staff member but have refrained from further comment due to the ongoing investigation. Court documents showed that detectives found the narcotics in a search of Wallace's home, with marijuana discovered in a black backpack marked 'T. Wallace,' as per an affidavit cited by FOX13 Memphis. Further details from the authorities revealed that the seized marijuana tested positive for THC, while the handgun found on Gathings was not reported stolen.
No information about Wallace's bond or court date was immediately available.
