Authorities say a car burglary in Tipton County led to the arrest of a Memphis man. Justin Alexander Fleming, 30, was apprehended by the Memphis Police Department with assistance from the Tipton County Sheriff's Office after investigating a reported auto burglary on Tracy Road. The sheriff's office stated that several items, including a handgun, were stolen from the victim's vehicle.
Surveillance footage from the victim's property showed a dark-colored sedan and a masked suspect who was later identified as Fleming. WREG News Channel 3 reports that after a thorough investigation, which included footage and tips from a third party, authorities were able to ascertain the vehicle's make and tag number, leading them to locate and subsequently arrest Fleming. He is currently being held on a $40,000 bond.
Action News 5 noted that the victim had noticed his belongings missing on October 15, prompting the investigation. The Tipton County Sheriff's Office soon distributed a press release via social media, detailing the events leading up to Fleming's arrest and the recovery of the stolen items.
According to the Tipton County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, the collaboration between the detectives, deputies, and the Memphis Police Department made identifying and apprehending Fleming quickly possible. "This is a case of where someone saw something and said something," Sheriff Shannon Beasley stated in the social media post. "This thief thought he could come to an outlying community and commit his crime...and he did...but he found out, and we welcome him to the Tipton County Justice System." Fleming has made his bond and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
