A fatal crash in St. Bernard Parish claimed the life of 64-year-old Scott Sanders of Metairie on Saturday, according to Louisiana State Police Troop B. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on LA 39 near Schnell Drive.
According to the Louisiana State Police release, Sanders was driving a 2025 Hyundai Palisade when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a steel support pillar for a billboard. He was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious injuries. Sanders was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. While impairment is not suspected, toxicology results are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Louisiana State Police emphasized the importance of seatbelt use, noting that seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in crashes. Troopers also reminded drivers to avoid distractions, follow traffic laws, and maintain safe speeds to help prevent similar incidents.
