The Metropolitan Police Department is now investigating a homicide after a shooting incident in Southeast Washington, D.C., last Saturday night. According to a press release by the police department, Seventh District officers were called to the scene in the 3200 block of 15th Place SE, following a report of gunfire at around 9:43 p.m.
Upon finding the victim, an unconscious adult male with gunshot wounds, who police later identified as 37-year-old Eric Jones of Southeast, D.C., was discovered by officers. The emergency medical technicians from DC Fire and EMS declared him dead at the scene after they found no signs consistent with life, which suggests the response came too late to render aid.
As law enforcement seeks leads, they encourage anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the police by calling (202) 727-9099. Alternatively, tips can be texted anonymously to the MPD's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. In a bid to incentivize potential witnesses or informants, the Metropolitan Police Department offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this homicide case or any other in the District.
As the investigation continues, the community is left grappling with the loss of yet another life to gun violence. The police have not released any details regarding a suspect or motive. With a reward set at $25,000, it underscores the severity and the desperate need for closure in cases that tear at the fabric of the community. The residents in the 3200 block of 15th Place SE, in the aftermath of a life cut tragically short, have now become the background for another crime scene.
