
Tragedy struck on the highways of Miami-Dade as a Miami Beach Police officer was involved in a serious crash and later died from his injuries. The incident occurred on the I-75 extension in Hialeah, near the entrance to Gratigny Parkway, and had emergency services rush to the scene around 11:30 a.m. today, as reported by WSVN. Officer David Cajuso was the motorman tragically killed. First responders were seen administering CPR in a grassy area just off the roadway, and Cajuso was subsequently airlifted in critical condition to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Following the incident, the Gratigny Parkway was closed in both directions between Red Road and the Palmetto Expressway. This was done to allow to smoothly conduct the rescue operations and investigations. Local 10 shared footage of the harrowing scene showing the officer lying in the grassy area while first responders worked tirelessly to try to quickly save his life. The crash caused significant traffic disruptions, with all northbound lanes of I-75 being closed near the Palmetto Expressway shortly after the incident.
The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the investigation to unravel the circumstances of the crash. While details of the incident are still emerging, law enforcement agencies came together outside the hospital, where Cajuso was taken. A procession was held in honor of Officer Cajuso, where scores of officers were seen outside Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to reporting by Local 10.
Details about what may have caused the crash or whether any other parties were involved have not yet been released. As for the roadways, drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes in the wake of the incident, with local news sources providing ongoing updates on traffic conditions.
