Residents of South Florida should keep their raincoats close as the weather forecast indicates a wetter than usual pattern over the Miami area, with an overcast of showers and thunderstorms expected to persist into the weekend and early next week. According to the National Weather Service, today will see a 70% chance of rain, with new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible amidst episodes of heavy rainfall.
While Miami locals are accustomed to their fair share of precipitation, this spate of weather owes its stay to deep moisture combining with a weak area of low pressure. In fact, this meteorological situation has, "a very small chance of tropical development as heavy rain really is the primary concern," as reported by NBC Miami. Winds will remain brisk, blowing from the east, which increases the risk for rip currents and has trigged advisories for small crafts.
Temperatures are predicted to see a noticeable dip, struggling to hit 90 degrees as the area enters what is hoped to be the tail end of its rainy season. Over the weekend, the National Weather Service anticipates a 60% chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, with highs respectively near 86 and 87 degrees. Evenings will remain mostly cloudy with sporadic showers and thunderstorms continuing into the night.
Beyond the weekend, unsettled weather is expected to linger over South Florida as the system gradually moves west. Conditions may improve by Sunday night, with rain chances dropping to 30 percent, mostly before 2 a.m., offering the possibility of a drier start to the week.
