As Miami residents brace against the Friday morning weather, reports have surfaced of widespread storms hammering southern Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. A notable presence of lightning remains off the coast of Broward and Miami-Dade, where temperatures hover in the upper 70s. According to the National Weather Service, an 80% chance of precipitation today with expected showers and thunderstorms generating between a half and three-quarters of an inch of new rainfall.
With afternoon storms prophesized to be "off-and-on," there are concerns about intense rainfalls which could incite localized flooding threats, supplemented by the high tide. NBC Miami cautions that flooding is possible through the weekend, and that the Southeast wind will range from 5 to 10 mph alongside a high near 86 degrees.
Yet, a whisper of relief comes in the shape of a cold front, expected to sweep through South Florida by Saturday. As the NBC Miami forecasts, "morning showers are expected ahead of the front" and thereafter, Miami will see clearer skies and a drop in humidity. Temperatures overnight will descend into the low 70s.
The front is slated to affect not just the temperature but the storm climate too. As it treks on by, the NBC Miami report points to dry and comfortable weather taking residence to wrap up the weekend and into the following week. And, as the cold front makes its way, Tropical Storm Jerry and Subtropical Storm Karen appear intent on playing out their turbulence far from Florida's concerns. Jerry is expected to remain a tropical storm, steering clear of Bermuda and casting itself out to sea, while Karen is likely to dissipate within the next day in the northern Atlantic, citing lack of thunderstorm activity in cooler waters as its undoing.
As for Miami's outlook, the weekend post-cold front spells a drop in chances for showers, hovering at a promisingly low 10% come Sunday; a high near 88 degrees, and Northwest winds around 10 mph as the National Weather Service details. Columbus Day continues the streak of good weather with sunny skies, highs near 88 degrees, and gentle Northeast winds.
