The Gladeview community is in mourning after the death of 29-year-old Sahmari Cromer, who was fatally stabbed outside his Northwest Miami-Dade home yesterday morning. According to WSVN, Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies arrived at the scene on the 1800 block of Northwest 70th Street shortly after 4 a.m., where they discovered Cromer suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Tragically, despite the efforts of paramedics from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, as NBC6 reports, Cromer succumbed to his injuries at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

At the site of the incident, sorrow and disbelief were palpable among Cromer's family and friends. Sahmari's mother, Tawyana Bell, shared with NBC6 her deep-rooted conviction: “Somebody killed my child out there, but the system already had killed him.” This heartrending statement encapsulates the family’s view that beyond the immediate violence, systemic shortcomings in mental health care bear a heavy responsibility for the personal tragedy that unfolded on the streets of their own neighborhood.

Struggling with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, each intersecting in the life of one who by his mother’s account, was at heart "a good person," Cromer's condition reportedly deteriorated after a recent change in his medication. Sahmari's father, expressing the gravity of the situation and the need for systemic reform in a statement obtained by WSVN, remarked, “I really feel like this mental health thing, something has to be done.”

As the investigation into Cromer's stabbing continues, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has yet to release any suspect information or details regarding the events that led up to the tragedy.
