The continuous closure of the government poses risk to the 24% of Miami-Dade households relying on SNAP benefits, which, according to the mayor's release, form the community's safety-net, as reported by the county's website.
Within the borders of Miami-Dade County, the reliance on federal programs like the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is evident. The mayor stressed in her communication that four of the top five congressional districts for ACA enrollment are found within or partly within her county's vicinity, underscoring the deep dependency that her residents have on such federal provisions.
