A Miami Lakes teacher was arrested yesterday on allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor, which reportedly occurred while teaching in North Carolina. Jordan Kacie Hawk, identified as a 26-year-old social studies teacher at Miami Lakes K-8 Center, faces four counts of indecent liberties with a minor, according to Miami-Dade jail records.
The arrest follows an active warrant issued by the Kannapolis Police Department. Hawk's court appearance today saw her waiving extradition, meaning she could be transferred to North Carolina within the next month. Failing a pick up by North Carolina authorities within that timeframe, Hawk will be released from jail in Miami, NBC Miami reported.
Details surrounding the allegations suggest the incidents took place earlier in the year and involved a student. "Jordan Hawk, 26, of Florida, has been arrested on four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor. The incidents took place earlier this year when Ms. Hawk was teaching at a local school and involved a juvenile student. She was arrested by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and is expected to be extradited to North Carolina and taken into custody by the Kannapolis Police Department," stated Kannapolis Police in a release obtained by NBC Miami.
Following the arrest, Miami Lakes K-8 Center removed Hawk's online profile. No additional details on the allegations have been provided by officials. When seeking comment from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Local 10 News reported receiving no immediate response. Hawk's legal representation and the specifics of her transfer to North Carolina are yet to be disclosed.
