Minneapolis residents are gearing up for a week of fluctuating weather conditions, starting with a sunny high near 91 degrees and gusty winds today, as reported by the National Weather Service. With a south wind at 10 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 35 mph, citizens should prepare for a breezy day ahead.
As we slip into the evening, the winds are not expected to subside, maintaining speeds around 20 mph with possibilities of reaching up to 35 mph again. The forecast, high temperatures, and bracing gusts pose an elevated risk for potential fire hazards, especially across southern Minnesota, where conditions are dry and ripe for ignition. According to a Special Weather Statement issued earlier, the area will be experiencing near-record temperatures alongside these winds, amplifying the fire danger.
Looking ahead to Sunday, there's a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms post 1 pm, with temperatures taking a mild drop to a high near 83. The winds, however, show no sign of waning as gusts around 40 mph are expected, setting up another day where paying heed to fire risks will be necessary. The winds are predicted to shift with a west wind of 10 to 15 mph, becoming north northwest after midnight as we head into Sunday night.
The week progresses with mostly sunny skies on Monday, a high near 64, and more gentle north northwest winds around 5 mph, while Monday night remains mostly clear, the low around 48 brings a change in the air, signaling a potential chance for frost or a light freeze Tuesday night across parts of central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this according to the National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook.
As the week continues through to Friday, Minneapolis can expect consistent sunny days with highs steadily in the mid-60s, and lows resting comfortably in the mid to high 40s, with a calm wind making an appearance, becoming south around 5 mph by Wednesday morning while Thursday may bring a 20 percent chance of showers during the day, the evening should dry out albeit with partly cloudy conditions.
