The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, alongside the Louisiana State Police, have successfully concluded the AMBER Alert for 2-year-old Christopher Cooper. Earlier reports indicated that Cooper had been thought to be abducted and was last seen yesterday. According to LSP's recent update, the boy has been located and is safe. Officials have requested the public to refrain from circulating the photographs of the young child and have directed further inquiries to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.
In the initial moments when the AMBER Alert unfolded, the sense of urgency was palpable. State Police were quick to issue the alert after receiving the request from local authorities at 10:45 p.m. on September 30, 2025. It was needed to immediately locate Christopher, who had been seen in a white 2011 GMC Yukon on Interstate 55, heading south near Kentwood. At the time, Christopher was described as a light-skinned black male with brown eyes and short black hair, standing 3'2" tall and weighing approximately 40-50 pounds, last seen wearing a red shirt, black shorts, and blue Crocs shoes.
Authorities were also searching for James Mercier, a white male with brown eyes and brown hair, in connection to the disappearance. He was last seen wearing black pants but without a shirt, although he had a white/gray shirt with him. Mercier and Cooper were believed to be traveling in the reported white GMC Yukon, with a Mississippi license plate reading PJT070. A web page detailing the AMBER Alert, previously available on the Louisiana State Police's official website, has since been updated to reflect the cancellation of the alert.
During the search efforts, the Sheriff's Office urged anyone with information to come forward and contact them at (985)345-6150 or to dial 911 if necessary. This plea likely assisted in the efforts to quickly and safely locate and return Christopher Cooper to safety. Now with the case resolved, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has chosen not to release further details on the circumstances surrounding Christopher's disappearance or discovery.
