Get ready, mid-Missouri motorists—roadwork is coming your way. A wealth of repairs and upgrades slated for Oct. 20-26 may cause a mix of delays and detours, so plan ahead. According to MoDOT, weather permitting, the schedule for the construction projects includes a variety of ongoing works, from bridge rehabilitation to pavement repairs across multiple counties.
Columbia residents will see various activities, including water line relocation on I-70 Drive Southeast, which will lead to closures at the Woodridge Drive entrance from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., per MoDOT. Route TT is having pedestrian facility upgrades, and Route K's intersection with Old Plank Road will be narrowed to one lane due to roundabout construction, this, may cause delays. The Route 63 interchange improvements at Route AC (Grindstone Parkway) will redirect traffic as Lenoir Street sees closures impacting Lenoir Woods' northern entrance.
Further afield in Callaway County, South Outer Road 70 and North Outer Road 70 will undergo repairs and culvert projects. The latter is part of the broader Improve I-70 program, attempting to revamp one of the state's primary arterial routes. Intermittent lane closures are also expected on I-70 through November 2025 for new pavement construction, stretching from Boone County to Kingdom City, as disclosed by MoDOT.
Infrastructure investments haven't left out pedestrian needs. Business U.S. 50 (Missouri Boulevard) in Cole County is receiving upgrades for those traveling by foot, albeit with temporary closures. Drivers in Crawford County should brace for a slew of maintenance from culvert replacements on Route 8 to pavement repairs along North Outer Road 44, weather permitting, motorists may not have it easy during these days as lane closures are a given.
Rural counties like Howard and Laclede are not immune from this wave of change. Bridge works on Route 5 over Bear Creek and pavement repairs on Route WW see necessary but inconvenient interventions. It's a similar story over in Maries where Route C and Route AA are amid culvert and bridge replacements, respectively. Please note, Miller County will have culvert replacement on Route CC, causing similar single lane restrictions.
Whether you're in Moniteau, Morgan, Phelps, Pulaski, or Washington County, MoDOT's efforts touch every corner with bridge replacements, roundabout constructions, and necessary rehabilitation projects—all part of the ongoing struggle to keep our web of roads both safe and efficient. But as we navigate these narrows of progress, MoDOT reminds us of our shared burden: "MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones."
