The Missouri Department of Transportation Kansas City (MoDOT KC) is preparing to hold an open house to discuss proposed improvements to the traffic situation at the intersection of Missouri Route D and U.S. Route 69 in Lawson. The changes are being driven by the increase in traffic, which is especially problematic during the peak periods. Traffic flow enhancement is the name of the game as MoDOT KC aims to present and discuss a proposed roundabout that could potentially address these issues.
The open house meeting is scheduled for October 9, between 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm, and will be held at the Lawson City Hall on South Pennsylvania Avenue. According to a MoDOT release, this will be the second public interaction on the project, the first having taken place in late March. While no formal presentation is set to be conducted, those attending will be able to actively engage, to bring up their questions, and are invited to thoroughly learn about the roundabout proposal, which is touted as the safer and more efficient option by MoDOT.
Roundabouts have been identified as a possible solution to improve safety by reducing traffic speeds and simplifying turns, which can lower the risk of serious accidents. Feedback from the public, along with considerations for local businesses and project scope, has placed a roundabout as the leading option.
Following the public meeting, starting at 4 p.m. on the same day and continuing through October 23, community members can view project displays and leave comments on the project’s dedicated webpage. MoDOT will provide accommodations for those who need assistance; Area Engineer Ravi Neupane can be contacted by email or phone for arrangements.
Additional project information and an option to leave online comments are available on the project webpage. Community input will help guide MoDOT KC as it moves forward with plans for the Clay County intersection project.
