A North Carolina man has been arrested on multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of minors. Luis Alberto Sosa, 50, of Mooresville, was taken into custody in Florida and is awaiting extradition to North Carolina. Sheriff Darren Campbell confirmed that Sosa faces several charges involving sexual offenses against children, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
The investigation began after a tip was received by Detective R. Olson of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit. Authorities said the victims, both from Argentina, were between 13 and 17 years old when the alleged abuse occurred between 2002 and 2008. Sosa is accused of using a religious ministry to bring the victims to the United States for ministry work, where he allegedly assaulted them. The Argentinian Consulate’s notification to local authorities helped initiate the investigation.
The offenses came to light after the victims, now adults, reported them to Argentinian authorities, leading to an international investigation. Sosa was arrested in Florida following collaboration between the Iredell and Flagler County Sheriff’s Offices and remains in custody without bond.
Sheriff Campbell credited cooperation between law enforcement agencies in both countries for the arrest. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has released a video of the arrest and confirmed the investigation remains ongoing.
