A tragic motorcycle accident has resulted in the death of a rider on the Westbank, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office confirms. The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Holmes Boulevard and Athena Avenue, was reported just before 1:30 am. According to WDSU, responding deputies found an adult rider ejected from the motorcycle who, despite receiving emergency medical services, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff, Joe Lopinto indicated that the motorcyclist was believed to be traveling northbound on Holmes Boulevard before the incident. Investigators suggest the rider struck a barrier, leading to the loss of control. WWL Louisiana reported that based on this preliminary information, no other vehicles were believed to be involved in the mishap and that standard toxicology testing will be conducted as part of the autopsy to further understand the circumstances surrounding the crash.
While the identity of the victim has been withheld pending family notification, the nature of the accident suggests a single-vehicle involvement. "At some point, the rider struck a barrier in the roadway, causing him to lose control," a release obtained by WWL Louisiana stated. Capt. Jason Rivarde, a spokesperson for the department, provided details on the unfortunate occurrence to NOLA.com, indicating that the motorcyclist struck a barrier while going northbound, leading to him being thrown from his bike, suffering fatal injuries.
