The streets of Southeast D.C. echoed with gunfire on a recent Thursday night, prompting a swift response from the Metropolitan Police Department. At around 10:45 p.m. on August 7, police were called to the 5000 block of H Street, Southeast, after reports of gunshots were made. When officers arrived, they found evidence of a shooting, but no victim was at the scene, according to a statement from the MPD.
It was only moments later that the situation became clearer, a gunshot victim had made their way to a nearby hospital, seeking life-saving care and it was there that officers found an adult female, awake and enduring the pain of her injuries, confirming she was the one caught in the firing at H Street. The MPD reported the woman was "conscious and breathing, suffering gunshot wounds." This incident is now at the forefront of an active search for two suspects, with the police department turning to the community for aid. They have implored anyone with information that could lead to identifying the shooter, or the other person of interest, to step forward and assist in their investigation.
The public's help could not only bring justice but also prove lucrative, with the MPD offering a reward of up to $10,000. This sum is promised to those who deliver details that help arrest and convict the perpetrators, the department’s way of incentivizing tips in efforts to crack down on violence ingrained in the city's streets. The police have urged witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at (202) 727-9099 or to anonymously send a message to the TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, as stated on the MPD's official news release.
