In a recent operation, deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) apprehended a 30-year-old man on multiple charges, including the possession of an unlawful firearm and a stolen pickup. This arrest followed vigilant observation and strategic maneuvers initiated by the MCSO deputies.
Last seen at a closed gas station at a time when businesses had long ceased their bustle for the day, the suspect's vehicle was found near 521 Southwest Halsey Street in Troutdale. A license plate check led to the discovery of the vehicle's involvement in a possible robbery in Umatilla County, wherein a firearm had also been reportedly taken. In a swift relay of intel, the pickup's location was broadcast to nearby agencies and patrol deputies, as reported by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
The elusive pickup was relocated half an hour later at another gas station, this time at 2533 Southwest Cherry Park Road. In a coordinated effort, MCSO deputies teamed up with officers from the Gresham Police Department to form a containment zone, ensuring no easy escape routes remained available to the suspect.
Upon lockdown of the area, deputies approached the vehicle with caution and began instructing the individual inside. The suspect, identified as Jacob Richard Mack, at first refused to follow orders to vacate the pickup. Deputies, well-versed in crisis management, issued multiple use-of-force warnings and subsequently deployed a less-lethal projectile device to improve visibility into the vehicle for officer safety. The strategic patience paid off as Mack eventually surrendered without a struggle, ensuring a conclusion devoid of harm or injury.
Upon investigation, a firearm was retrieved by the deputies from the pickup. Mack was later booked at the Multnomah County Detention Center under several charges, including "Unlawful possession of a motor vehicle, First-degree theft, Felon in possession of a firearm, and Possession of a stolen motor vehicle." The MCSO statement reminded readers that "Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt." Further details await as the MCSO continues its investigation into the incident.
