The Metro Nashville Police Department is actively seeking a suspect linked to a shooting that left one person injured this past Saturday in South Nashville. The encounter, which unfolded along the stretch of Harding Place, escalated when the suspect reportedly chased the victim in a vehicle, sporadically firing shots at multiple locations. WSMV reports that the police have yet to ascertain a motive for the shooting, while the quest for the alleged perpetrator, thought to have been in a red vehicle during the incident, continues.
According to WKRN, the sequence of events began with a 911 call at approximately 5:08 p.m. from the intersection of Travellers Inn Drive and Harding Place. Within minutes, a second shooting was reported a half mile away. The Tennessee Department of Transportation SmartWay traffic map showed police activity related to the incident, causing road closures, including the eastbound exit ramp of I-24 at Exit 56 and the southbound lane of Harding Place.
The pursuit prompted a substantial police response, shutting down portions of Harding Place for several hours as law enforcement officials canvassed the area and interviewed witnesses. The victim, who was shot twice, is expected to make a full recovery, as noted in a statement gathered by WKRN. Detectives were seen collecting shell casings along Harding Place in the aftermath of the event.
Authorities are currently on the lookout for a red Dodge Charger, though the shooter’s identity remains unknown. Witnesses have reported seeing the vehicle, which could carry notable bullet holes from the chase, as Here Nashville mentions. The MNPD has called for the public's assistance in locating the suspect. Harding Place has since been reopened to traffic, signaling a gradual return to normalcy for the community shaken by the incident.
