Amelia Earhart Park is gearing up to host a community event that aims to shine a light on a pressing but too often hidden issue: post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among first responders. On Saturday, the park will be the starting point for the "Never Walk Alone" 5K marathon. The event, which is entering its second year, is expected to draw hundreds of participants, including first responders and their supporters.
Despite the heavy subject matter, the day promises connections and family-friendly activities, with the Miami Firefighters Benevolent among the primary organizers. Attendees can look forward to not just the race starting at 10 a.m. but also a subsequent BBQ event intended for friends and family, as reported by WSVN. Efforts will go toward raising awareness for the struggles associated with PTSD that many first responders face, an oft-overlooked aspect of their sacrifice and service.
Funds raised through the "Never Walk Alone" 5K will go directly to the organization of the same name, offering support systems and educational programs to those grappling with PTSD. In a brief period, the organization has expanded its reach, now encompassing over 600 participants from more than 20 fire service, law enforcement, military, and healthcare organizations across South and Central Florida.
Encouraging broad participation, a post on the organization's Facebook page invites the community to "Join us on Saturday for Never Walk Alone! Bring your family, friends, and teammates for a day filled with purpose, connection, and fun." The post continues, urging the community to "walk for those who've walked through the fire for us," highlighting the spirit of solidarity that defines the event.
