Residents concerned about the high rate of collisions at the intersection of 60th Avenue NW and Tecumseh Road can expect some relief. Starting October 15, the city will be implementing an All-Way Stop Control at this problematic juncture, officials from the Department of Public Works announced.
Feedback from the community and sobering crash statistics prompted an evaluation of the intersection, leading to the decision to upgrade its traffic controls. “STOP” signs complemented by all-way plates will be positioned on all approaches. Advance warning "Stop Ahead" signs are also part of the plan to enhance motorist awareness, according to the City of Norman's announcement.
To ensure that the changes do not go unnoticed, flags will temporarily adorn the new signage. The hope is that these visual cues will help to alert drivers to the altered traffic pattern, potentially reducing accidents and improving overall safety.
