The city is now home to a brand new fire station, Fire Station 6, which was officially inaugurated on Monday with a traditional ribbon-cutting event. Nestled at 5032 N. Kelly Ave., this 11,000-square-foot facility doesn't just boast of state-of-the-art features; it promises to quickly respond to emergencies in one of the rapidly expanding areas of Edmond, according to the City of Edmond.
The station, which comes fully equipped with seven fire personnel, one engine, and a brush pumper, is a strategic addition to the city's defenses against fires and other emergencies. "Station 6 will significantly improve our response times in northwest Edmond, ensuring faster, more effective service when seconds matter most," Edmond Fire Chief Terry Essary highlighted in a statement. The project, to directly serve a population that's swelled by nearly 20,000 over the last two decades, is financed through Fire Department reserves to the tune of approximately $8.6 million, as stated by the City of Edmond.
Efficiency and security have a new address in Edmond. It's a factor not lost on the community, especially given the fact that the new Fire Station 6 represents the first such construction since 2005. This investment underscores Edmond’s commitment to public safety, and the Edmond Fire Department holds a Class 1 rating— the highest rating— by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), as per the official City of Edmond website. Standings such as these reflect a community's and fire department's ability to effectively douse fires— a source of assurance to residents.
It's a move that’s long been anticipated. With Edmond's northwest quadrant lacking a dedicated fire station and the city's population only continuing to bloom, the opening of Fire Station 6 is set to decisively bolster the Edmond Fire Department's capabilities. "It stands ready – not just as a building, but as a symbol of hope, service, and the future of Edmond," Chief Essary was keen to point out, as per the City of Edmond.
