Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday next week, the intersection of Lowerline Street and Birch Street in New Orleans will be closed for roadway restoration as part of the East Carrollton B&C construction project. According to the City of New Orleans, the intersection is expected to reopen on Wednesday next week. The work is part of a larger citywide infrastructure improvement effort.

Traffic control signs and barriers will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians. Westbound traffic will be rerouted to Hickory Street, then south on Fern Street, with access back to Lowerline Street via Jeanette Street. Residents in the area were notified through neighborhood canvassing.

The $28.7 million project includes repairs to sewage, water, and drainage systems, as well as street reconstruction and sidewalk and curb improvements. Impetus Construction is overseeing the work, which will take place Monday through Friday from morning to evening, with completion targeted for Winter 2026, depending on weather conditions.

The City of New Orleans reports that since May 2018, 44 active roadwork projects valued at $507 million are underway. For updates or information, residents can call 504-658-7623, email [email protected], text BuildNOLA to 77295, or visit ready.nola.gov/alerts.
