The New Orleans Police Department deployed more than 400 officers for NBA YoungBoy’s sold-out concerts at the Smoothie King Center. The increased security followed intelligence reports of potential threats involving the rapper’s entourage and rivals. Officers were stationed on foot and bicycles, supported by tactical teams, drones, armored vehicles, and light towers throughout downtown and the French Quarter, according to WDSU.
WWLTV reported that NOPD Deputy Superintendent Hans Ganthier said the department took additional precautions based on information from past incidents in other cities where NBA YoungBoy’s concerts were canceled due to safety concerns. The Smoothie King Center also enforced a no-bag policy as part of the security plan.
According to FOX 8 Live, police closed parts of the area surrounding the venue, creating a strong law enforcement presence as fans gathered for the event.
WWLTV added that some detectives worked additional hours to ensure proper coverage. The security operation aimed to maintain safety for concertgoers and the surrounding community.
