As temperatures dip, the City of Norman is reaching out to assist those in need with a Community Coat Drive, set to run from Sunday through December 2. The city has established five drop-off locations that are open for donations, according to a recent announcement on their official website.
Residents can drop off new or gently used coats at any size at the designated locations, which include the City of Norman Development Center at the Parks & Recreation Office, 12th Avenue Recreation Center, Little Axe Community Center, Westwood Golf Shop, and Young Family Athletic Center. The initiative aims to not only collect coats but to also foster community spirit and to directly provide support to those in need during the colder months.
In a statement obtained by the City of Norman's website, Grace Holloman, the City of Norman Accessibility and Culture Coordinator of the Norman Parks & Recreation Department shared her gratitude towards the community: "We are grateful to the community we serve and cherish opportunities to give back," she said. "We are hoping these efforts provide comfort and warmth to community members in need as we come into colder months."
