The Metropolitan Police Department has recently made an arrest in a string of theft from auto incidents in Northeast D.C. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Nolan Jones of Northeast, faces various charges, including multiple counts of Theft from Auto and Destruction of Property, along with Unlawful Entry Of A Motor Vehicle. The MPD released this information through a statement on their official website, capturing the narrative of a month-long investigation that culminated in the suspect's apprehension.
It was on July 26 when Sixth District officers first responded to the initial report of a theft from auto on the 4300 block of Ord Street, Northeast. Here, the suspect, allegedly entered the victim's vehicle, stole items, and fled, generating case number CCN 25113310. Despite the suspect having disappeared after the theft, detectives meticulously pieced together evidence and sightings over the following months.
According to the MPD's release, their Robbery Suppressant Unit in collaboration with members of the Sixth District executed a search warrant on October 23, in the same block where the first incident transpired. The operation led to the retrieval of several items considered as evidence in the theft from auto investigation.
Matching the suspect to additional crimes that took place near the vicinity, Jones was linked to other incidents as per the press release – incidents that consisted of unlawful entry and destruction of property on consecutive days in July on Kenilworth Avenue, Olive Street, and 44th Street, each with their own corresponding CCN. The detectives, with a trove of evidentiary items in hand, continued to link Jones to further crimes stretching into early August.
Ultimately, Nolan Jones was booked and charged with three counts of Theft from Auto, four counts of Destruction of Property, two counts of Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle, and Theft One.
