An Oak Ridge man, Jacob Paul Yugo, is charged with first-degree murder after the death of his mother, Candace Yugo, from injuries in an assault earlier this month. Oak Ridge Police responded around 4 p.m. last Friday to East Newkirk Lane and found the victim with life-threatening injuries, as reported by WATE.

Police first charged the 34-year-old with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. The charges were later upgraded after Candace Yugo died on Wednesday. ORPD confirmed her death and said her son was involved. Jacob Yugo is being held at the Anderson County Detention Facility, according to WBIR.

The Oak Ridge Police Department says the case is still under investigation. ORPD Senior Communications Specialist Lauren Gray said in a news release, “Upon arrival, officers located a female victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was transported to an area hospital,” as mentioned by WVLT. Police say they will release more information when it becomes available, and charges have been filed against Yugo in connection with the case.
