Oakland Raiders safety Tristin McCollum was fined $5,722 after a collision with Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader during the Colts’ 40-6 win over the Raiders caused Shrader to suffer a season-ending ACL and MCL injury. The incident happened in the second quarter after a successful extra point and resulted in a penalty for unnecessary roughness. Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason said, “We’re just really gutted for Spencer Shrader,” according to FOX59.
Colts linebacker Joe Bachie was also fined for unnecessary roughness and tripping and was later placed on the injured reserve list with a foot injury. Mason told IndyStar that his connection with Shrader goes back to college recruitment, saying, “I recruited him to the University of Notre Dame, so I had an interesting path with him to already have known him and his family.”
The injuries have affected both the players’ health and team dynamics. McCollum’s fine, though small compared to most NFL salaries, shows the league’s stance against reckless play, as reported by Colts Wire. As more details about the game and penalties emerge, it remains unclear how the teams will adjust their rosters and strategies.
