An altercation involving a couple and two teenagers on e-bikes took a violent turn this past Saturday in Ocoee. A man driving a red BMW is accused of striking a 13-year-old with his car, and his wife is alleged to have attacked another teen during the incident. WFTV reported that the driver, Todd Norwood, now faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief, while Angelique Norwood is charged with battery.
The tension escalated after the Norwoods confronted the teenagers, who were riding their e-bikes, angering the occupants of the BMW, who yelled at them to vacate the road. According to the arrest affidavit, as obtained by ClickOrlando, the vehicle then clipped one of the teens. The other teen managed to photograph the BMW’s license plate, which later aided the police in the investigation. In an eerie silence, the BMW was seen in video footage striking the teenager, provided by a witness at the scene.
During the confrontation, one of the teens was crossing the street when Todd Norwood hit him with his vehicle. The teen avoided injury by jumping off the bike, which sustained approximately $3,200 in damage according to police estimates. The BMW showed fresh paint transfer consistent with the alleged impact, poking holes in Todd Norwood's account that the juveniles were riding recklessly, which he claimed led to the escalation out of fear.
Todd Norwood defended himself by saying the children were "driving recklessly" and making him feel threatened, which prompted his departure from the scene, but the evidence appears to tell a different story.
