
An officer-involved shooting took place on Interstate 70 near Earth City Expressway in the early hours of yesterday morning, leaving one adult female injured. The incident unfolded at approximately 12:33 a.m. when officers responded to a call regarding a suicidal subject, the St. Louis County Police Department reported.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department's press release, a 28-year-old officer, who has five years of experience in law enforcement, encountered the woman. She was armed and walking along the eastbound lanes of the interstate, just east of the Blanchette Bridge. The altercation led to the officer discharging his service weapon, grazing the female after she allegedly pointed her firearm at him.
The woman was subsequently taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries. Authorities confirmed that a firearm was recovered from the scene. It was also reported that the officer involved in the shooting was not injured during the incident.
The St. Louis County Police Department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons Detectives is currently leading an ongoing investigation of the incident. While further details are limited, the department has committed to providing additional information as it becomes available. As of now, no other individuals appears to be involved, and traffic on Interstate 70 following the event was affected, but has since returned to its normal flow.
