Heads up, OKC drivers: navigating the maze of I-35 and the surrounding arteries is looking somewhat like a game of Tetris this week, sans the catchy tune. If your travel plans include this stretch, you're going to need some patience—or better yet, a new route. According a traffic advisory from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), I-35 northbound traffic near Goldsby is getting squeezed down to one lonely lane from SH-74/Main St. to SH-9W in Norman for a part of Thursday night due to overhead sign installations.

And it doesn't stop there—the southbound I-35 off-ramp to SH-9W will also take a timeout starting Friday night, closing its asphalt stage from 9 p.m. onwards, and not reopening until the early birds start chirping at 6 a.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, SH-9W is already playing the long game, with lanes reduced through the entirety of 2026 as the area eagerly awaits the transformation of its interchange into an engineering marvel, a Diverging Diamond Interchange, to be exact.

Fridays seem to be a popular day for roadwork, as I-40 is jumping on the bandwagon too. Eastbound lanes at Morgan Rd. will lean on the slim side, restricting traffic down to a trickle for most of the day for safety device repair and, not to be outdone, westbound I-44 at Pennsylvania Ave. takes its bow in the afternoon for a similar tune-up. These brief hiccups, while inconvenient, are part of a broader symphony of updates aiming to keep commuters safe on their daily treks.

For those of you plotting an escape around the congestion, consider US-77 and I-44, although do take note that I-44 has its own bit of narrowing on Friday. And just like a bad dream that lingers, US-77 gets its fair share of the action, with single lanes near Tecumseh Rd. through various November nights.
