As Halloween approaches, Oklahoma City Police Department is reminding everyone that the spooky season should also be a secure one. Through their Facebook page, they've issued some tips for trick-or-treaters, parents, and drivers to ensure a harmless haunt this Friday. In a social media post, you'd find direct advice like, "Walk Smart: Use sidewalks and crosswalks. Look left, right, and left again before crossing." Oklahoma City Police caution, urging the little witches and warlocks to ditch their phones and pay attention to their trek for treats.
Indeed, visibility remains a paramount concern with "Be Seen: Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape," being among the advised strategies. And with all kinds of capes and wands flitting about, drivers are reminded, perhaps with less than magical insistence, that they need to SLOW DOWN. Keeping an extra eye out during the bewitching hours of 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. is key. Still, the police also strongly suggest, in a bit of motherly advice, "inspect treats: Don't eat any candy until you get home and an adult has checked it for any signs of tampering."
Buddy systems are in vogue this Halloween too, with kids under 12 instructed to be with a trusted adult, and older kids should make their haunting rounds in groups. Only well-lit doorsteps are the go-to for "Light Up: Only approach homes with a porch light on," the Oklahoma City Police Department says.
