The Oklahoma City community is grappling with the aftermath of a fatal weekend shooting that claimed the life of 53-year-old Glenn Denson at a busy gas station; while the police are seeking the public's assistance in tracking down the assailant, the tragedy marks the city's 55th homicide of the year, as law enforcement efforts to apprehend the suspect continue to ramp up, as reported by News9.
As reported by News9, the unfortunate incident unfolded just before 11 p.m. Saturday near Northeast 23rd Street and Interstate 35 when Oklahoma City Police officers discovered Denson, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, he was promptly rushed to a local hospital but later died from his injuries thereby plunging his family and the wider community into mourning as questions about the motive behind the attack remain unanswered.
In their efforts to secure valuable information that may lead to the apprehension of those responsible, OCPD has called upon residents for help, a sentiment echoed in the words of Master Sgt. Gary Knight, Public Information Officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department, who emphasized the role the collective might play in such cases, "A lot of times the public solves these cases for us with information," he told KOCO.
Additionally, authorities utilized a drone to survey the scene at the convenience store's location at Northeast 23rd Street and Bryant Avenue in a bid to gather evidence, and as per KFOR, they are working tirelessly to piece together the events that led up to Denson's death. Witnesses on the scene recounted the harrowing moment when the shooting took place, just as Denson was exiting the gas station provoking a large police response in the area in an incident that not just represents a loss for those who knew Denson but also a poignant reminder of the persistent challenge of gun violence that continues to afflict urban centers across the nation. No suspects have been arrested yet in the shooting, and the Oklahoma City Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward.
