The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced several weekend traffic changes and lane reductions due to ongoing construction on major highways. Drivers traveling between Oklahoma City and the Texas state line on I-35 should expect heavy traffic and slower speeds through work zones.
According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) release, with the OU vs. Texas football game this weekend, travelers heading south are advised to allow extra time. I-40 will have single-lane traffic in both directions near Hydro, Erick, and Okemah for rehabilitation and bridge work. ODOT suggested alternate routes such as US-81, US-69/75, US-377, or US-77 to avoid congestion.
Additional projects will affect other major routes. Lane reductions are in place on US-69 in Atoka, US-62 in Muskogee, and the US-177/US-270 corridor near Shawnee for surface and bridge repairs.
Near Elgin, US-277 is narrowed to one lane each way for pavement rehabilitation. SH-9 near Ft. Cobb and US-259 south of Idabel are also reduced to one lane due to bridge work, with temporary traffic signals managing the flow.
