The State of Oregon has officially announced its participation in Cybersecurity Awareness Month, joining forces with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) to emphasize the critical importance of online safety and education. In a commitment shared by Enterprise Information Services (EIS), the campaign seeks to bolster the state's cyber defenses by encouraging the public and organizations alike to adopt safer digital habits.

Now hitting its 22nd anniversary, the Cybersecurity Awareness Month initiative revolves around the theme "Stay Safe Online," promoting not only the key tenets of cyber hygiene but also the nuances of empathy, accessibility, and shared responsibility, "This October let’s turn awareness into action, because every click, password and decision shapes our digital future," stated Ben Gherezgiher, Oregon's State Chief Information Security Officer, in a release, highlighting the role of individual actions in securing the collective digital landscape.

Aligning with the awareness campaign, Oregon's state government will be shining a light on the Core 4 cybersecurity practices designed to mitigate cyber threats: use of strong passwords in conjunction with a password manager, enabling multifactor authentication (MFA), keeping software up to date, and staying vigilant by recognizing and reporting phishing and scams.

By focusing on such straightforward and efficient security steps and fostering a culture of mutual cybersecurity accountability, the state takes pride in its contribution to the larger mission of constructing a fortified digital future for all.
