Tensions are high in Palo Alto after a mural was vandalized with derogatory language, sparking an investigation by the local police into the act as a possible hate crime.
The vandalism, which targeted a mural at a business on the 900 block of East Charleston Road, was discovered on Tuesday, after an unknown individual defaced it with language offensive towards people of Israeli descent. The police reported the mural, which had its painted histories and aspirations, is now scarred by symbols of division and hate. The cost of the damage is estimated at $2,000, and there are no suspects at this time, although the police continue their search, according to the City of Palo Alto.
