A tragic incident unfolded late Saturday night in South Austin when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle. Austin-Travis County EMS, responding to the scene at around 10:24 pm, reported an auto-pedestrian crash at the intersection of Orland Boulevard and South First Street, as per a tweet mentioned by KXAN. Despite the medics' efforts to quickly administer CPR, the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following the incident, the Austin Police Department shut down South First Street to conduct their investigation, leading to extended road closures. Drivers were advised to expect delays and were encouraged to seek alternative routes. The driver involved in the incident did not stay at the crash scene, ATCEMS said "paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene," CBS Austin reports. This added layer to the ongoing investigation seeks not only to piece together the circumstances of the incident but also to locate the driver who fled.
The Austin Police Department continues to probe into the details surrounding the incident.
