After years of serving the city of Pittsburgh, City Solicitor Krysia Kubiak is set to step down from her post, a move that she confirmed will take effect come Friday, October 24. Kubiak's tenure has been characterized by a commitment to public service, a sharp legal acumen, and an ability to streamline city processes, benefiting both her colleagues and the wider community.
During her time in office, Kubiak was instrumental in leading her team to save the City millions in litigation, and she worked to swiftly transition city properties to residents, which are notable achievements on her watch. In a statement obtained by the City of Pittsburgh's official website, Mayor Ed Gainey praised Kubiak, saying, “Her legal expertise and steady judgement have served this city well through many important decisions. We are deeply grateful for her service and wish her the very best in her next chapter.”
Following her departure, Kubiak will return to the private sector, more specifically at Duquesne Light, where she previously worked before joining the city's administration. In her forthcoming role as the Managing Director of External Affairs and Regulatory Law, Kubiak is expected to bring her considerable experience in municipal matters to bear on her new responsibilities.
Kubiak's shoes will be temporarily filled by Deputy Solicitor Jesse Exilus, who is to act as the acting City Solicitor. This appointment is meant to ensure continuity in the City's legal operations. On her parting note, Kubiak articulated a heartfelt message, sharing, “It has been an incredible honor to serve the City of Pittsburgh and work alongside Mayor Ed Gainey and such a dedicated administration,” according to the city's announcement. She continued to acknowledge the trust and collaborative spirit that characterized her years of public service.
