A Pompano Beach man is facing charges after being accused of leaving two dogs in deplorable conditions outside his residence. Forty-five-year-old Daniel Gallumette was arrested after Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered the dogs trapped in a filthy cage with insufficient food, water, or protection from the elements. According to a report by WSVN, the pets were left on the driveway of a home along Northwest 18th Street, subject to direct sunlight and harsh weather.
Complaints from concerned neighbors triggered the response from authorities, who said Gallumette refused to identify himself during the incident. The cage where the dogs were kept, shown empty after the incident, was visible in footage taken by 7News cameras. In a statement obtained by WSVN, Judge Corey B. Friedman said to the defendant, "Alright sir, good morning. You’re charged with one count, tormenting, depriving, mutilating, killing an animal." It was reported that the individual has since posted bond and was released.
Broward County Animal Care has taken custody of the two dogs. Gallumette’s legal troubles are detailed further in a Facebook post featuring his mugshot. Here, the charges against him, including 'TORMENT DEPRIVE MUTILATE KILL-ANIMAL' and 'RESIST OFFICER-OBSTRUCT WITHOUT VIOLENCE', are listed along with a bail amount initially set at $0.00.
The judge set bond for Gallumette at $2,500—$2,000 for the animal cruelty count and $500 for resisting an officer without violence—and ordered that he cannot own any pets until further ordered in court. Gallumette's mugshot and arrest details, including his arrest by the Pompano Beach agency on Sunday, can be found on social media. “Medical and property orders are granted. Bond on count one will be $2,000, count two will be $500,” Friedman said. Judge Friedman further ordered, "I’m further ordering that he’s not to possess any animals until further ordered in court," as noted by WSVN.
