With law enforcement engaged elsewhere, approximately 200 to 300 protesters used the opportunity, to block traffic and resist officers' attempts to redirect the assembly. Wearing masks and gloves, individuals linked arms, shouted chants, and defied police orders to disperse, proceeding to surround and kick police vehicles. The confrontation resulted in several officers sustaining injuries—one reportedly struck in the face—and four were later hospitalized with non-life-threatening conditions. While managing the crowd, police faced further obstacles as their equipment, including body-worn cameras and bicycles, was damaged or stolen.
The turmoil continued as additional units arrived at the intersection of Tremont and Winter Streets to subdue the unrest and carry out arrests. As per the Boston Police, "officers engaged in crowd control to restore order and effect lawful arrests." No medical attention was required for any of the apprehended individuals, indicating the injuries sustained within the protest were not severe enough to necessitate hospital care.
The list of those arrested includes Osama Khatib, 26, Roder Atwood, 21, Atalanta Carrig-Braun, 20, and several others, charged with a variety of offenses ranging from Disorderly Conduct to Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. All suspects are expected to be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.
