The investigation into the murder of 10-year-old Holly Piirainen continues to be a priority for the Hampden District Attorney's office, with renewed efforts underway through a DNA initiative. Holly was last seen in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, on August 5, 1993, and her body was later discovered in nearby Brimfield. To generate new leads, a Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG) event will be held in Brimfield, allowing participants to provide DNA samples via cheek swabs to assist in identifying the perpetrator through genetic genealogy.

As reported by CBS News Boston, this event coincides with the 32nd anniversary of the discovery of Holly Piirainen’s remains. A white tank top found near the scene, marked with "Boston," remains a key piece of evidence, with authorities seeking any information related to it. District Attorney Anthony Gulluni highlighted the importance of new DNA samples, stating, "Each new DNA sample has the power to bring us closer to the truth. Holly deserves justice, and her family deserves answers." Participants in the FIGG event will also receive their ancestry results at no cost, encouraging broader participation.

Holly’s family remains involved in the ongoing investigation. Her aunt, Carla Jackman, shared with Boston 25 News the journey they have faced, saying, "You have to be very patient, there’s a lot of rollercoasters, but we’re not gonna give up the faith that she’ll have some justice." The drive to unearth answers is strengthened by community support and the possibility that these efforts may not only aid Holly’s case but also other unsolved cases.

The DNA event is scheduled for November 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex on Wales Road in Brimfield. Anyone with information is urged to reach out to Holly’s Tip-Line at 413-426-3507 or use Text-a-Tip by texting CRIMES (2-7-4-6-3-7) with the word SOLVE followed by the tip.
