Starting October 27, a bridge on State Route 29 (U.S. 27) in Roane County will be replaced, causing a temporary detour for drivers. Traffic will be redirected onto State Route 61 before returning to State Route 29, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The detour may add a few minutes to travel time, so drivers should plan accordingly. The bridge work is expected to be finished by November 15, 2026, weather permitting, as reported by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Travelers can use the TDOT SmartWay system or dial 511 for real-time updates on road conditions and construction. "Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present," as stated by the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Drivers should avoid using phones while driving.
