A Westfield neighborhood was disrupted late last night as a house on Amberleaf Trail became engulfed in flames, according to the Westfield Fire Department. In the event that alerted the occupants, the fire reportedly began around 10:15 p.m., FOX59 reported. Firefighters were met with fierce flames shooting through the roof, and it took about an hour to quell the inferno, which thankfully did not spread to adjacent homes.
While the homeowners escaped unharmed, likely thanks to the timely warning by their smoke alarms, the residence sustained serious damage. Emphasizing the alarms' importance, a Westfield Fire Department representative told WISH-TV, "the homeowners were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms and got out of the house safely." As crews prevented further spread, their quick action ensured that no injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
The fire's origins and cause remain a mystery, currently under investigation by authorities. In the meantime, the fire department has seized this moment to remind residents of the essential maintenance of smoke detectors. "The Westfield Fire Department reminds residents to regularly check and maintain smoke alarms, as they are vital for early detection and safety," was stated in a news release obtained by WTHR.
