In an age where the cunning of scammers knows no bounds, the Roane County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) has issued a warning to residents: be on your guard against fraudulent calls. Yesterday, the RCSO used their Facebook page to alert the community about impostors posing as RCSO employees, these fraudsters are demanding payment for failure to appear in court or skipping out on jury duty.
The approach is nothing new, yet it catches many off-guard, In their online statement, the RCSO clarifies their stance: "We will never ask for payments for these violations, and if we have a warrant for you we will not call you before we come to arrest you." This gives residents a clear guideline on what to expect from legitimate law enforcement interactions.
Victims of such scams often find themselves in a web of anxiety and confusion, as the callers can be convincingly authoritative. However, the RCSO offers a lifeline for those who want to ensure the authenticity of the interaction. They invite anyone contacted by someone claiming to be a member of RCSO to verify the information by calling their booking room, which operates around the clock at 865-717-4777.
