A tragic incident left a community in mourning after a Rochester Hills woman lost her life in a rollover crash on Thursday in Auburn Hills. The accident, which occurred near South Boulevard and Adams Road, involved a single vehicle, a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox, that witnesses observed swerving before it ultimately overturned and made contact with an obstructive element in the terrain. The Auburn Hills Police Department confirmed the fatality, noting the victim was from outside the Metro Detroit area, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.
The woman was driving east at around 1:39 p.m., according to officials, when the SUV inexplicably drifted, moving across the centerline. Subsequently, the vehicle went into a ditch on the left side and struck a culvert with enough force to flip it onto its roof. The 61-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities, as detailed in a statement obtained by ClickOnDetroit. No other passengers were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, and no other vehicles were implicated in the crash.
Following the crash, South Boulevard was closed between Nichols and Squirrel Road as the Southeast Oakland County Crash Investigation Team, comprising multiple local law enforcement agencies, undertook the investigation process. They have appealed to anyone who might hold information pertinent to the accident to come forward and contact the Auburn Hills Police Department. The vehicle was removed from the scene after being hauled onto a flatbed at approximately 4 p.m., contributing to the ongoing investigation and clearing the area for safety, per information provided by Michigan Legal Center.
