The San Diego Police Department is setting a new standard for community engagement by announcing its P.L.A.Y. initiative – Police Leading Adventures for Youth. Aimed at fostering a stronger bond between the city's young people and law enforcement officers, the program seeks to forge positive connections through shared recreational activities. It moves beyond routine police work into a space where dialogue and understanding can flourish in a relaxed setting.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the inaugural event for P.L.A.Y., "Game with a Cop," provides a lineup of board games and tabletop role-playing activities, such as Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, and Catan. Set to take place at At Ease Games on Miramar Road, this gathering invites the city's children and teens to sit down and play and engage with officers outside of the traditional enforcement duties.
Officials from the SDPD expressed their hopes that by introducing these types of events, they can display an ongoing dedication to Community-Oriented Policing and youth outreach. By leveraging the universal appeal of games, "Game with a Cop" seeks to dismantle barriers and build bridges between young community members and the police officers committed to their safety. The program embodies an effort to establish trust and mutual respect, yielding a foundation that may sustain stronger, safer neighborhoods.
Scheduled for Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, media members are encouraged to attend and document the progress of this initiative.
