In a move aimed at addressing dipping enrollment numbers and bolstering higher education pathways directly, the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) has joined forces with San Francisco State University (SFSU) and City College of San Francisco (CCSF) to guarantee admission for students meeting certain criteria. The partnership is poised to serve as a lifeline to students navigating the often tumultuous seas of college admissions; it ensures that SFUSD graduates and CCSF transfer students possessing requisite grades and course completions will automatically find their berths at SFSU securely booked.
This collaboration is set to extend and solidify the reach of SF Promise, an initiative grounded in the promise of educational accessibility within the City by the Bay. "SFUSD, CCSF, and SFSU are deeply committed to providing S.F. residents with high-quality education and access to upward mobility," SFSU President Lynn Mahoney told SFUSD News. High school seniors must complete A–G courses with at least a 'C’ and maintain a 2.5 GPA, while CCSF students must amass 60 transferable units and have a minimum 2.0 GPA, in addition to passing core courses.
According to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco State has seen its student body shrink dramatically, losing a quarter of its undergraduates since 2020. This partnership aims to reverse the trend by reaching out directly to SFUSD seniors with a clear message: "Congratulations. You're in!" The outreach extends beyond postcards to workshops and translation services to ensure understanding and completion of financial aid documentation, among other forms of support.
