
In a somber tally for San José, a pedestrian was struck and killed early this morning, marking the city's 30th traffic fatality of the year. According to the San José Police Department, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Monterey Road and Edenview Drive when a 2001 silver Acura sedan hit an adult male pedestrian who was crossing the road.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:59 AM, with San José police officers responding to the distressing scene. When the collision happened, the vehicle was reportedly traveling northbound on Monterey Road, north of Edenview Drive. The victim, who was crossing eastbound across Monterey Road, was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene, becoming San José's 15th pedestrian to die in traffic-related incidents this year.
The driver involved in the collision initially fled the scene but returned shortly after to cooperate with law enforcement. As the investigation proceeds, the identity of the victim remains withheld, pending notification of next of kin by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner.
