In a decisive move against human trafficking in the Bay Area, the San José Police Department (SJPD) has shut down an illicit operation that was running out of the Caravelle Inn on North First Street. With support from the Santa Clara County Human Trafficking Task Force, the months-long joint investigation culminated last Wednesday, when officers arrested three individuals they believe were orchestrating the sex trafficking ring and cited two additional suspects for solicitation, per the San José Police Department.
Detectives began looking into the hotel after receiving several tips on potential illicit activities, leading them to uncover the sex trafficking network that had entrenched itself within the Caravelle Inn, and they managed to rescue six survivors who had been housed there for an extended period, all of whom were provided access to essential advocacy resources by onsite Community Solutions victim advocates. During the raid, approximately $30,000 in cash was also found, as per the department’s report, the three main suspects arrested were named as Cong Tien Nguyen, Qi Hong, and Rizaldy Mariano, charged with pimping, pandering, and conspiracy and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
